my is destroyed, the game ends, and the young women gather
‘round in an offering to the glorious space warrior.
Eddie was about to put his glass to his lips when he was
interrupted by the woman with the golden hair.
“Excuse me, do you have any quarters?”
Eddie looked up. What he saw at close range was a strik-
ing young woman — too young, he thought — perhaps eigh-
teen or nineteen, with long, yellow-brown hair, large blue eyes
that reminded him of his ex-wife, a small straight nose, a tiny
mouth accentuated by lipstick that was a shade too red, and
skin so smooth and inviting Eddie wanted to reach out and
caress her shoulders. She was wearing a faded halter top —
in the dimness of the bar it was hard to tell the color — that
ended above her midriff, and hip-hugging jeans revealing a
tight, flat stomach. What surprised Eddie most about the girl’s
appearance was that she was so ordinary in her striking good
looks. Glancing around the bar Eddie counted at least six or
seven other women who looked remarkably like this beauty.
Each one was tall and lean with long blonde hair fresh out of
a TV commercial. They all had small, firm breasts, baby soft
skin, and they were all dressed in designer jeans accentuating
long, shapely legs.
“See someone you know?” the girl asked, following his eyes
across the room.
“Uh, no. No,” Eddie said, blushing. “It’s just that you’re
so beautiful. I was comparing you to the other women here.”
God, I can’t believe I said that, Eddie thought.
This time it was her turn to blush.
